European Mountain and Trail Running Championships also for recreational runners

Slovenia will host the European Mountain and Trail Running Championships in June 2026. The city of Kamnik will be the central venue for the championship, the races will take place on Velika Planina and will also be open to recreational runners.

The European Mountain and Trail Running Championships are open to everyone. You can take part in a race where elite runners will compete for a prestigious medal. This is a unique way to experience a top sporting event as a participant.

Set amidst the stunning natural scenery of the old town of Kamnik, all the way to Velika Planina, this event offers challenging courses for competitive athletes, while also inviting all recreational runners. Whether you are competing for results or simply enjoying the company and adventure of off-road running, this event is perfect for everyone.

Velika Planota is a mountain plateau in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps northeast of Kamnik in Slovenia. Part of the mountain is adorned with huts that resemble shepherd's huts in appearance, but their interiors are much more comfortable and adapted to the requirements of tourists.

Between June 5 and 7, 2026, you will be able to try your hand at three disciplines:

• Velika Planina Run, 8.9 km long and 1,280 meters of elevation gain
• Trail Run, 25 km long and 1,270 meters of total ascent
• Trail Run, 52 km long and 2,450 meters of total ascent
