Slovenia will host the largest athletics competition in all Slovenian history – European Team Championships for Division 2 and 3 – between 24 and 29 June 2025. More than 1,500 athletes from 31 countries will participate.
The Slovenian national team with all the best athletes will fight for a breakthrough to Division 1. At the last championship in Poland in 2023, our team was only half a point short of advancing to the group of the best.
The renovated Poljane Athletics Stadium in Maribor will host the third major athletics competition after the renovation. The Styrian capital hosted the European Youth Olympic Festival (OFEM - EYOF) last year and the Balkan U18 Championship this year.
The main goal of the championship is to qualify for Division 1, and the first three places will take us there. This is certainly an opportunity to see top-level athletics at a high level. We can expect the visit of some world athletics stars, including two-time Olympic and world champion, Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, his compatriot, world record holder in low hurdles Karsten Warholm, European champion in the 400 meters, Belgian Alexander Doom, former world long jump champion, Ivana Španović from Serbia, multiple Olympic, world and European champion in the discus throw, Croatian Sandra Elkasević and many others...
