On Sunday, 20 October, 15,267 runners will run through the streets of Ljubljana. There are 2,881 runners for the Heineken 0.0 marathon with a big jump, 6,238 for the half-marathon Generali ZAME and 6,148 registered for the Garmin run 10 km. We set an all-time record with 5,092 international runners from 86 countries. We are extremely proud that there are 10,175 Slovenians. The happy fact is that we have increased the number of runners at all distances.
Intensive work on international runners is paying off, the share remains at 33%. At the marathon distance, we already have 46% of international runners, last year this percentage was 49%. The most massively represented countries are Croatia, Serbia, Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, France and Hungary.
The total number of Slovenian runners has grown by 1,164 runners and 50% of them are registered for the Garmin run 10 km, while the most relentless 13% will fight the 42 km course at the Heineken 0.0 marathon. Last year, we Slovenians moved a little more to longer distances.
We have rejuvenated the running population of the NLB Ljubljana Marathon, the average age of a runner is 39 years. We are extremely happy that as much as 29% of all registrants are up to and including 30 years old, in numbers this means 4,472 young runners who will bring their running lifestyle to their peers. In previous versions, this percentage was a good 25%. This is important because this 4% difference in this year's implementation means almost an additional 600 young people in absolute terms. The youngest runner is 16 years old, the oldest 90.
We have increased the proportion of female representatives to 41%, thus making the NLB Ljubljana Marathon event even more beautiful by 1% compared to 2023. Perhaps this role can also be attributed to the Lelosa partnership and the joint concept of a women-friendly event.
